The two NERC Doctoral Training Programmes based in London – London NERC DTP and my own Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet DTP held a joint conference for students on the 1st and 2nd September at King’s College London.
This was organised by the joint student committee and was one of the smoothest conferences I have attended with all speakers keeping to time! Check out London DTP student Lucy Roberts’ blog for insight into planning and running a conference.
I was booked to present two talks at another conference the week after so in the interest of stress-reduction put in an abstract for a poster this time and presented my latest results on modelling the effect of land use change on soil invertebrates.
Each day of the conference started with a keynote speaker followed by students presenting on their research. These student talks covered a huge range of topics with awards given for the best judged and popular talk. Prizes were also given for the posters presented in and there were workshops including how to publish and panel discussions on science and policy and work-life balance. I was unable to attend the social events organised on both days but they looked good fun with a science showoff comedy show on the 1st day.
