Professor Graham Cooke has accepted appointment as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, with effect from 1 August 2024, for a term of five years.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor Cooke will continue in his role as Vice-Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Medicine. Professor Cooke is also currently serving as Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Disease, a role which he will step down once he takes on the role of Deputy Dean of the Faculty.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Reporting to the Dean, and as a member of the Faculty of Medicine\u2019s senior leadership team, the Deputy Dean works closely with the Dean, sitting on the Dean\u2019s Management Group, and supporting the efficient and effective leadership and management of the Faculty. In the absence of the Dean, the Deputy assumes their duties and responsibilities, including line management, as appropriate and applicable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor Cooke joined the College in 2006 as a Clinical Research Fellow in the Department of Infectious Disease. He is a member of the Academy of medical Sciences and an NIHR Senior Investigator having held and NIHR Professorship in Infectious Disease from 2017-22. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A major focus of Professor Cooke\u2019s research has been to provide the scientific evidence underpinning efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis through investigation of disease burden, modelling, and clinical studies. He leads the Infection and Antimicrobial resistance theme of the recently renewed NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre and had a leading role in the College\u2019s response to COVID-19, including the REACT study.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor Cooke is also a non-executive director and acting Chair of the board of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and has held World Health Organisation (WHO) roles covering the WHO Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
