{"id":101,"date":"2014-06-17T11:23:16","date_gmt":"2014-06-17T11:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/rtsic\/?p=101"},"modified":"2014-06-17T11:23:16","modified_gmt":"2014-06-17T11:23:16","slug":"team-bruise-and-the-bike-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/rtsic\/2014\/06\/17\/team-bruise-and-the-bike-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Bruise and The Bike Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A slightly damp and overcast Monday on a stretch of windswept tarmac may not sound like the ideal way to start your week, but for one\u00a0group of bikers it was a dream come true that many may have thought impossible. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tbex.co.uk\/\">The Bike Experience<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\">a charity that teaches and advises motorcyclists who have been disabled how they can ride again. Founded\u00a0by Talan Skeels-Piggins in 2011 the charity is unique in its goals of assisting disabled bikers back onto two wheels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Students from the <a href=\"http:\/\/ide.rca.ac.uk\/\">Innovation Design Engineering<\/a> course (a double masters course run in partnership between Imperial College and the RCA) were in attendance yesterday to demonstrate the Rio Tinto Sports Innovation Challenge project,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www3.imperial.ac.uk\/newsandeventspggrp\/imperialcollege\/newssummary\/news_16-6-2014-15-59-12\">the Bruise suit<\/a>. This innovative system uses a film developed for the assessment of industrial machinery to assist paraplegic sports men and women to be able to determine the potential damage to their body following a knock or crash. The system was developed following discussions with Talan about his life as an alpine sit-skier as part of Team GB in the 2010 Winter Paralympics.
