{"id":132,"date":"2022-01-20T12:30:35","date_gmt":"2022-01-20T12:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/office365\/?p=132"},"modified":"2022-08-18T15:14:18","modified_gmt":"2022-08-18T14:14:18","slug":"multi-factor-authentication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/office365\/2022\/01\/20\/multi-factor-authentication\/","title":{"rendered":"Multi Factor Authentication"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What is Multi Factor Authentication?<\/h2>\n<p>Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an additional authentication step when authorising access to College resources.\u00a0 Your college username and password provide a level of protection for access, but adding an additional factor that you control adds greater security.\u00a0 By using MFA you have an additional control in securing your login.<\/p>\n<h2>Why is Imperial using MFA?<\/h2>\n<p>MFA is now enabled for all Imperial accounts (staff and students) to provide additional security and reduce the potential for account compromise.<\/p>\n<h2>How to do &#8220;easy&#8221; MFA<\/h2>\n<p>The best tool to enable easy MFA is the Microsoft Authenticator app available for <a href=\"https:\/\/app.adjust.com\/e3rxkc_7lfdtm?fallback=https%3A%2F%2Fplay.google.com%2Fstore%2Fapps%2Fdetails%3Fid%3Dcom.azure.authenticator\">Android<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/app.adjust.com\/e3rxkc_7lfdtm?fallback=https%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Fapp%2Fmicrosoft-authenticator%2Fid983156458\">iOS (Apple)<\/a> devices.<\/p>\n<p>ICT encourage all users to use the Authenticator app.\u00a0 Download to a personal or college device and use to authenticate your sign-in.\u00a0 Provide a code from the app or choose to respond to &#8220;push&#8221; notifications (allow or deny the request).<\/p>\n<p>If you have a suitable watch (Apple watch, Samsung watch or other connected device) you can respond directly to push requests from the watch interface.<\/p>\n<p>ICT recommends using the app rather than a phone call or text message.\u00a0 There are documented cases of &#8220;SIM cloning&#8221; to intercept phone calls and text messages.<\/p>\n<h2>Additional Support<\/h2>\n<p>There is more information and instructions on how to set up the authenticator app on the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/account-billing\/set-up-the-microsoft-authenticator-app-as-your-verification-method-33452159-6af9-438f-8f82-63ce94cf3d29#:~:text=On%20the%20Add%20a%20method%20page%2C%20select%20Authenticator,on%20your%20mobile%20device%2C%20and%20then%20select%20Next.\">Microsoft support pages<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you need additional help contact the ICT Service Desk using the <a href=\"https:\/\/servicemgt.imperial.ac.uk\/ask\">Self-Service pages<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Multi Factor Authentication?
