\u201cAltogether, my team has successfully blended over 100 classes this summer, and I\u2019m proud and humbled to have led an initiative like no other.\u201d<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

I am the Associate Director and Head of Operations for\u00a0<\/span>Imperial<\/span>\u00a0College<\/span>\u00a0Business School<\/span><\/a>\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Edtech<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Lab<\/span>. I\u00a0<\/span>am responsible for overseeing and managing the smooth running of the entire portfolio of online\u00a0<\/span>programmes<\/span>\u00a0for the School<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0for<\/span>\u00a0building expertise to ensure the School is at the forefront of innovation in technology-enhanced education.\u00a0<\/span>I lead a dedicated team to deliver approximately 180 online modules every year, including modules for our award-winning online Global MBA\u00a0<\/span>programme<\/span>\u00a0and our MSc in Business Analytics.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before joining the College in 2017, I worked as a designer and commissioning editor for\u00a0<\/span>Epigeum<\/span>, an\u00a0<\/span>Edtech<\/span>\u00a0start-up and leading provider of online professional development for\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>igher<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>e<\/span>ducation<\/span>\u00a0institutions worldwide.\u00a0<\/span>Before that,\u00a0<\/span>I earned my PhD in Philosophy from the University of Otago<\/span>\u00a0and worked as a Research Scholar at Boston University.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While<\/span>\u00a0responding to C<\/span>OVID-19<\/span>, we quickly\u00a0<\/span>recognised<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span>only\u00a0<\/span>relying on\u00a0<\/span>virtual lecture<\/span>s was going to be unsustainable beyond the\u00a0<\/span>s<\/span>pring\u00a0<\/span>t<\/span>erm<\/span>\u00a0and would lead to low engagement and satisfaction for our students<\/span>. With that in mind,\u00a0<\/span>we immediately implement<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0measures to assist faculty in enhancing the learning experience for the\u00a0<\/span>s<\/span>ummer term.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our<\/span> aim was\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>change\u00a0the approach to learning through the<\/span> addition of structured, supported, social and interactive elements. We created a series of templates to scaffold virtual classes within a larger learning narrative, held <\/span>1:1<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>consultations<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span>our faculty<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and rolled out a weekly workshop series<\/span>\u00a0– i<\/span>ncluding Zoom and media training and a masterclass in online course design. Altogether, my team has successfully blended over 100 classes this summer, and I\u2019m proud and humbled to have led an initiative like no other.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

W<\/span>e are now looking ahead to prepare for a multi-modal scenario<\/span>\u00a0for the autumn term<\/span>, where students and faculty\u00a0<\/span>can<\/span>\u00a0move seamlessly between being on<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>campus and online throughout the year. This new model of learning will require adaptations to our current classrooms and new, innovative pedagogies for delivering a consistently high-quality experience to\u00a0<\/span>all<\/span>\u00a0our students, wherever they are in the world.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s exciting to be at the\u00a0<\/span>epicentre<\/span>\u00a0of a\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0shift in education<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and as a team we are optimistic that the changes we are making now\u00a0<\/span>will\u00a0<\/span>extend beyond the current crisis to inform a new and improved model of education that puts the students’ learning needs at the very\u00a0<\/span>centre<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
