Celebrating our community during COVID-19<\/em><\/h3>\n

\u201cS<\/span><\/b>ince COVID-19 began I\u2019ve filmed, edited and distributed 40 videos about COVID-19 protection for frontline staff with Dr Iqbal Malik for the European Cardiology (<\/span><\/b>ePCR<\/span><\/b>) response to the pandemic \u2013 one video has over 100,000 YouTube views.<\/span><\/b>\u201d<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Following a BA, an MA (Video), and an MSc (Medical Illustration – Photography and Video), I started working at St Mary\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Hospital\u00a0<\/span>as a Medical Photographer in 1994, and subsequently filled several audio-visual roles until my current post as Photographer and Video Producer within the\u00a0<\/span>Faculty of Medicine<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I was asked<\/span>\u00a0to write this profile about the\u00a0work\u00a0I\u2019ve done during the\u00a0<\/span>COVID<\/span>-19 pandemic,\u00a0<\/span>my heart sank<\/span>\u00a0–\u00a0<\/span>after all, I\u2019ve spent my entire professional career hiding behind the camera! So, I warn Helen<\/span>\u00a0Johnson<\/span>, who nominated me for this dubious\u00a0<\/span>honour – and Jen, Lisa, Steve and Karen, who all persuaded me not to duck out of it \u2013 that you all owe me many beers\u00a0<\/span>for putting me through this (w<\/span>hen the pubs re-open!)<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0<\/span>brief, since\u00a0<\/span>COVID<\/span>-19<\/span>\u00a0began I<\/span>\u2019ve\u00a0<\/span>filmed, edited and distributed\u00a0<\/span>40\u00a0<\/span>videos about COVID-19 protection for frontline staff with Dr Iqbal Malik for the European Cardiology (<\/span>ePCR<\/span>) response to the pandemic \u2013\u00a0<\/span>one video has over 100,000\u00a0<\/span><\/a>YouTube\u00a0<\/span>views<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>We\u2019ve even\u00a0<\/span>had\u00a0<\/span>hospitals emailing us from<\/span>\u00a0Brompton<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to New Zealand requesting permission to use one of these COVID-1<\/span>9 videos<\/span>, which has been\u00a0<\/span>really nice<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>help out<\/span>\u00a0with.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve also been\u00a0<\/span>making clinical and communication skills videos to meet GMC guidelines for new doctors and undergraduate teaching<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>am involved in making conventional and immersive videos for the<\/span>\u00a0College\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0undergraduate<\/span>\u00a0virtual Open<\/span>\u00a0Day<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, I\u2019m\u00a0<\/span>working with various teaching fellows and hospital departments to develop video resources for online teaching in\u00a0<\/span>o<\/span>bstetrics-<\/span>g<\/span>ynaecology,\u00a0<\/span>m<\/span>usculoskeletal-<\/span>o<\/span>rthopaedics, and\u00a0<\/span>s<\/span>urgery<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As<\/span>\u00a0befits a photographer, I\u00a0<\/span>can\u00a0<\/span>offer you two further snapshots of my experiences:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>driving home at 7pm on a Friday night, and realising that Piccadilly was deserted except for me<\/span>\u00a0and finally,\u00a0<\/span>delivering a socially-distanced replacement keyboard to a colleague who\u2019d spilled orange juice over their laptop!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
