I am the Head of Exams and Assessment at\u00a0<\/span>Imperial College Business School<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and Co-<\/span>Chair<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<\/span>Race Equality Charter<\/span><\/a>‘s Self-Assessment Team.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I joined the Business School in 2013 after leaving a similar role at a Royal Medical College where I worked for 14 years. Throughout my career<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0I have worked on process and procedure improvement projects such as moving examination applications online, to moving exams online here at Imperial.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Before the pandemic<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0the Business School had been working on our biggest \u2018bring your own device\u2019 digital exam pilot using\u00a0<\/span>WISEflow<\/span>. Myself and my colleague Emma\u00a0<\/span>Stoakes<\/span>, our digital exam project lead, had been working on this big moment for the past 12 months<\/span>… and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>then the pandemic hit!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This meant a change of plans. It was all hands<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>deck for me and the exams team, working all hours to move 21 paper exams and 600 students online in\u00a0<\/span>four<\/span>\u00a0days, providing instructions, guides, FAQs, videos and helpdesk emails for students to be supported in sitting their exams. I worked with Phil Tulip in\u00a0<\/span>Edtech<\/span>\u00a0to create exam submission areas on our\u00a0<\/span>Insendi<\/span>\u00a0VLE platform, created student and faculty digital exams web pages and worked with ICT to set up helpdesk email accounts for students to reach us during their exam with any queries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Fast forward to today<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0we have successfully moved 70 exams and 1<\/span>,<\/span>400 students\u00a0<\/span>from April to June<\/span>\u00a0into the digital exam world, ran numerous student training sessions, created demos and video for students and faculty. So far, the feedback from all stakeholders has been positive and constructive in this stressful time. I am very proud to be<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>part of an exams team that adapts so quickly to challenging situations in the most innovative of ways,\u00a0<\/span>epitomising<\/span>\u00a0the best qualities of a team<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0respect and collaborative working to get the job done.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Then on a more personal note in the chaos of the pandemic<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0George Floyd was brutally killed. This incident has rocked me to the core, but sadly not shocked me.
