{"id":689,"date":"2013-05-13T14:59:29","date_gmt":"2013-05-13T13:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www2.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/?p=689"},"modified":"2018-05-29T10:38:09","modified_gmt":"2018-05-29T09:38:09","slug":"helix-project-kicks-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/2013\/05\/13\/helix-project-kicks-off\/","title":{"rendered":"HELIX project kicks off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/worldbank\/8493639314\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"782\" height=\"272\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-692\" src=\"http:\/\/www2.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2013\/05\/air-pollution.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The HELIX project consortium (The Human Early-Life Exposome &#8211; novel tools for integrating early-life environmental exposures and child health across Europe), which officially began on 1st January 2013, have met for its official kickoff meeting at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.creal.cat\/en_index.html\">CREAL<\/a> (Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology),\u00a0Barcelona. \u00a0This <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/fp7\/understanding\/fp7inbrief\/what-is_en.html\">EU FP7<\/a> project will exploit novel tools and methods, including omics and smartphone-based personal exposure monitoring, to characterise early-life exposure to a wide range of environmental hazards, and integrate these with data on major child health outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at Imperial, led by <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.imperial.ac.uk\/medicine\/people\/m.coen\/\">Dr Muireann Coen<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.imperial.ac.uk\/surgeryandcancer\/\">Department of Surgery and Cancer<\/a>, will contribute to the metabolic profiling (metabonomics\/metabolomics) in the project.
