{"id":3526,"date":"2017-06-16T12:32:28","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T11:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www2.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/?p=3526"},"modified":"2018-05-29T10:36:00","modified_gmt":"2018-05-29T09:36:00","slug":"professors-friedland-and-drobniewski-elected-escmid-fellows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/2017\/06\/16\/professors-friedland-and-drobniewski-elected-escmid-fellows\/","title":{"rendered":"Professors Friedland and Drobniewski elected ESCMID Fellows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/people\/j.friedland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Jonathan Firedland<\/a>, Head of Infectious Diseases and Immunity, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/people\/f.drobniewski\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Francis Drobniewski<\/a>, Professor of Global Health and Tuberculosis, were elected Fellows of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.escmid.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESCMID<\/a>) in early May.<\/p>\n<p>The title \u2018ESCMID Fellow\u2019 recognises individuals who have achieved professional excellence and outstanding contribution to the field of microbiology and infectious diseases. Professor Friedland\u2019s research interests lie in innate immune response and novel host directed therapies for tuberculosis and migrant health. Professor\u00a0Drobniewski\u2019s research group focuses on all aspects of tuberculosis and its interaction with HIV.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3537\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3537\" style=\"width: 334px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" class=\"wp-image-3537 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2017\/06\/professors-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"Professors Friedland &amp; Drobniweski\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3537\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jonathan Friedland and Francis Drobniewski<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since its founding in 1983, ESCMID has evolved to become Europe\u2019s leading society in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases with members from all European countries and all continents. Professors Friedland and Drobniewski are amongst the first 120 Fellows to be selected from a membership of around 7,500.
