{"id":1904,"date":"2014-09-04T15:06:03","date_gmt":"2014-09-04T14:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www2.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/?p=1904"},"modified":"2014-09-04T15:17:03","modified_gmt":"2014-09-04T14:17:03","slug":"symplectic-elements-common-questions-answered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/2014\/09\/04\/symplectic-elements-common-questions-answered\/","title":{"rendered":"Symplectic Elements &#8211; common questions answered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You should review the Symplectic Elements website guides <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.imperial.ac.uk\/symplectic\/userguide\">http:\/\/www3.imperial.ac.uk\/symplectic\/userguide<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have answered some of the most frequently asked questions received within the Faculty of Medicine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#searchsettings\">Symplectic is not retrieving my publications<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#idnumber\">Adding a publication with the ID number<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#ordering\">My publications are not appearing in the correct order on my PWP<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#error\">I get an error message when I try to accept or decline publications<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a id=\"searchsettings\"><\/a>Symplectic is not retrieving my publications &#8211; Review your search settings<\/h3>\n<p>If the automated search performed by Symplectic elements is not retrieving your publications, there are a few things you can do to address this.<\/p>\n<p>The more criteria you include in your search settings, the more restrictive the search becomes. Therefore you should tweak your settings by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Removing addresses \u2013 it is likely that you will only be publishing under \u201cImperial College London\u201d. Therefore, having \u201cImperial\u201d will be enough \u2013 anything else is not needed and should be removed.\n<ul>\n<li>If you have published at another institute, and would like these included in your Publications listing, then you can include these as well. It is recommended that you use very specific address information exactly as they appear on your publications. For example \u201cOxford\u201d would be sufficient to pick up items published at \u201cUniversity of Oxford\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"748\" height=\"80\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1907 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2014\/09\/address.png\" alt=\"address\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure your name variants appear EXACTLY the same as the name under which you publish<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2014\/09\/names.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"730\" height=\"135\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1910\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2014\/09\/names.png\" alt=\"names\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce the number of keywords to broaden the search (having too many keywords will further restrict the search)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a id=\"idnumber\"><\/a>Adding a publication via the ID number<\/h3>\n<p>This will force Symplectic Elements to retrieve a specific publication.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Within the search settings, scroll to the bottom of the page<\/li>\n<li>Enter the ID number (for example, Publications on PubMed show this as \u201cPMID\u201d)<\/li>\n<li>Press the + button<\/li>\n<li>Press Save<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2014\/09\/id.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"726\" height=\"235\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1911\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2014\/09\/id.png\" alt=\"id\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>When the next scheduled search takes place, it will retrieve that publication. <\/em><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"ordering\"><\/a>My publications are not appearing in the correct order on my PWP<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Within Symplectic Elements, go to \u201cAccount Settings\u201d in the top right of the screen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In the section \u201cUpdate Sort for External Systems\u201d choose an order for the desired category. For example, if your publications are not appearing in the right order, choose an order for \u201cPublication\u201d such as \u201cDate (descending)\u201d and then click \u201cUpdate\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2014\/09\/account.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"747\" height=\"310\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1912\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/fom\/files\/2014\/09\/account.png\" alt=\"account\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>THEN go to your PWP, login and click on the \u201cAdministration\u201d tab.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In the section \u201cSymplectic Elements\u201d press the circular arrow icon.
