Well done everyone!<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This year, the Department of Medicine became <strong>an active sponsor of the WOMENinSTEM@IC group<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/women-in-stem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Find out more about the group and their activities.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>As part of this year&#8217;s round of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/news\/186473\/annalisa-alexander-raising-aspirations-inspiring-next\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President&#8217;s Awards<\/a>, <strong>Juliet Allibone\u00a0was Highly Commended<\/strong> in the Leadership Award for Excellence in Societal Engagement category.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fran Husson won the Inspirational Partner Award<\/strong> for Excellence in Societal Engagement.<\/li>\n<li>At this year&#8217;s Imperial Festival, members of staff and students from the MRC CMBI and HPRU AMR oversaw\u00a0a raft of different activities in the &#8216;Superbugs Zone&#8217;, and\u00a0<strong>engaged with thousands of members of the public<\/strong> on the critical issue of antibiotic resistance.<\/li>\n<li>The Department enjoyed a bumper round of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/dom-staff\/2018\/08\/31\/academic-promotions-in-dom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Academic Promotions<\/a> in 2018, with <strong>16 members of staff successfully moving up<\/strong> to new posts.<\/li>\n<li>Throughout the course of this year, the number of trained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/health-and-wellbeing\/mental-health\/mental-health-first-aid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mental Health First Aiders<\/a> in our Department has grown from <strong>4 to 20<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiallondon.sharepoint.com\/sites\/fom\/operations\/contacts\/Lists\/Contacts\/MHFA.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Browse the full Faculty list on SharePoint (filterable by campus and\/or Department)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The Department&#8217;s Mentoring Scheme (now Faculty-wide) is <strong>continuing to grow and provide benefits<\/strong> to mentors and mentees. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-staging.imperial.ac.uk\/dom-staff\/2018\/10\/16\/a-fresh-look-at-mentoring-national-mentoring-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read about one pair&#8217;s experiences of the scheme.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Three of the Department&#8217;s Postdoc and Fellows Development Centre (PFDC) Reps &#8211;\u00a0Anat Melamed,\u00a0Ceyda Oksel\u00a0and Delphine Rolando <b>&#8211;\u00a0<\/b>were\u00a0<strong>nominated for an Individual Award<\/strong>\u00a0at this summer&#8217;s PFDC Reps Awards Dinner for their continuous contributions to the postdoc community.<\/li>\n<li>The Department&#8217;s <strong>revamped and improved\u00a0Professional, Technical &amp; Operational\u00a0Staff Working Group (PTOSWG)<\/strong> is up and running (and looking for new members!). The group\u00a0focusses specifically on PTO staff in the Department, and looks at communication, training and development, opportunities and recognition. If you&#8217;re interested in joining in the New Year, please contact Claire Wade (<a href=\"mailto:c.wade@imperial.ac.uk\">c.wade@imperial.ac.uk<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Staff and students from the HPRU AMR team successfully signed up <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/news\/189172\/successful-annual-antibiotic-amnesty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">300 new antibiotic guardians<\/a> <\/strong>as part of this year&#8217;s\u00a0World Antibiotic Awareness Week<\/li>\n<li>Last but not least: the Department\u00a0celebrated a milestone in combatting inequality in the workplace with the <strong>renewal of its Athena SWAN Silver award<\/strong>.
