National Pay Award 2016/17

UCEA (the Universities and Colleges Employers’ Association) has advised that, whilst it continues to seek a settlement with the Higher Education trades unions on their 2016-17 pay claim, institutions can now implement the draft 2016/17 national pay settlement. The College’s national pay scales have therefore been updated to incorporate a rise of 1.1% effective from 1 August 2016 for those staff remaining on national non-clinical rather than local pay scales.

Payment at the appropriate new rates will be made in September 2016 salaries and will be backdated to 1 August 2016.

Director of the Centre for Environmental Policy

Professor Mark A. Burgman has accepted appointment as Director of the Centre for Environmental Policy (CEP), and Chair in Risk Analysis and Environmental Policy, in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, with effect from 1 February 2017.

Professor Burgman is currently Head of the School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne, and Adrienne Clarke Chair of Botany and Managing Director of the Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis.

Professor Burgman’s main research interests are in environmental science, including ecology, quantitative analysis and modelling, conservation biology, biosecurity risk analysis and environmental policy. He obtained his PhD in the Department of Ecology and Evolution, the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

In 2013 he was awarded a Royal Society of Victoria Medal for Scientific Excellence in the Biological Sciences, and he has been a Fellow of the Australia Academy of Science since 2006.
