President’s 2016 Awards and Medals for Excellence in Education

The President’s Awards for Excellence are annual awards to recognise staff members who have made outstanding contributions in Education or Research.

The President’s Awards for Excellence in Education celebrate staff who have made outstanding contributions in teaching, pastoral care, research supervision and supporting the student experience.

PRESIDENT’S AWARDS AND MEDALS FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING

Awards for Excellence in Teaching are presented annually to members of academic staff judged to have been most outstanding in the quality, organisation and presentation of their teaching. Of the fifteen award winners up to four may be selected to receive a President’s Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching Excellence.

Awards for Excellence in Pastoral Care are presented annually to recognise the importance which the College places upon providing a supportive learning environment for its students as part of its academic mission. Of the five award winners up to two may be selected to receive a President’s Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Excellence in Pastoral Care.

Up to five award winners may be selected, of which two may be selected to receive the President’s Medal for Excellence in Research Supervision.

The Award for Outstanding Research Team celebrates the achievements of research teams at Imperial, recognising outstanding research that delivers impact, a team’s international standing and their beneficial contribution to Imperial.

The Award for Excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship celebrates the achievements of academics at Imperial, recognising unique activities breaking new frontiers, the effective and appropriate exploitation of research, and realised or prospective economic or social impact.

Vice-Dean (Institutional Affairs), Faculty of Medicine

Professor Clare Lloyd has accepted appointment as Vice-Dean (Institutional Affairs) for the Faculty of Medicine, with effect from 1 June 2016.

Reporting to the Dean, Professor Lloyd will have responsibility for determining academic operational priorities and will lead on the development of Faculty policy and procedures for academic operational activities. She will provide high level Faculty leadership for training, coaching and mentoring activities for doctoral students, and for junior academic staff. Professor Lloyd will also take on over-arching responsibility for the development of fellowship opportunities within the Faculty.

Professor Lloyd joined Imperial in 1999, taking up the role of Chair in Respiratory Immunology in 2006, and was the NHLI’s first Institute Lead for Women from 2008-2014. Her research focuses on the development and regulation of immune responses in the lung, particularly the inception of allergic immunity in early life.

Campus Services and Commercial Operations

Some changes have been made to enable Campus Services and the Office of Financial Strategy (OFS) to achieve their respective missions:

Campus Services, led by Jane Neary (Director of Campus Services), provides services for students, staff and the wider Imperial community.

The Office of Financial Strategy, led by John Anderson (Director of Financial Strategy), generates diversified revenues to be reinvested in the College’s academic mission.

In order to consolidate and strengthen the activities which contribute to these missions, all commercial activities have been transitioned out of Campus Services and into the Office of Financial Strategy, and the Early Years Education Centre (EYEC) has moved from HR to join Campus Services.

Campus Services now has the following portfolio of activities:
• Catering & College Events (led by Jemma Morris)
• Residential Services & the Student Hub (led by Paul Noke)
• Sport Imperial (led by Grant Danskine)
• Early Years Education Centre, EYEC (led by Tracy Halsey)

The commercial activities which were formerly part of Campus Services have joined the Office of Financial Strategy as a new department. Commercial Operations is led by Charles Gallagher (Head of Commercial Operations) and is made up of the following portfolio of activities:
• Summer Vacation Lettings
• Gradpad
• Commercial Conferencing & Events
• Commercial Sport

Both Campus Services and the Office of Financial Strategy will be working closely together and with the Provost’s Board over the coming months to develop their strategies going forward.
